The city of Puno is considered the ”Folklore Capital of Perú” and the Site of the popular Feast of Virgen de la Candelaria, the city lies on the shores of Lake Titicaca (3827m.a.s.l.), the highest navigable lake in the world and the most important lake in South America, where there is a port to move merchandises and passengers to other islands and other countries, it is used by locals of Bolivian and Peruvian towns. On these lands one of the most representative Aymara cultures was developed “Tiahuanaco”, which is considered as one of the most important cultures in Peru. They left famous archeological monuments that create admiration in both locals and visitors. Actually the lake contains numerous diverse islands, whose inhabitants maintain their ancestral customs and traditions. |
